No matter how great your experience is in another country theres no way that you don't miss your people back home, especially if you are are blessed as me to have such amazing people back home. Well this week I got to experience the best of both worlds by enjoying my experience while sharing it with people that I care about.
The day after I returned from London my Aunt's Anne and Susan flew into Dublin from New York. After having a lovely lunch with them they took me on the hop on hop off tour to experience something of Dublin that I have yet to experience the guinness factory. It was interesting to be able to do something so traditional in Dublin as well as experience it with my aunts. I got to learn about how beer was made as well as enjoy the complementary pint!
The room where we enjoyed our pint was on the top floor of the factory and it had an amazing panoramic view of Dublin, of course me the photo freak had fun with that.
Anne and Susan could not have experienced more typical Irish weather. Despite the great weather that we had the week before it was raining the entire time that we were here. So on Friday we decided to museum hop, we went to the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin castle which had an amazing exhibit on different religions around the world. As well as we went to an exhibit on the history of Dublin in Dublin City hall. Later Friday night we went to go see God of Carnage in Dublin, it was such a funny play. It was originally set in my old neighborhood in Brooklyn but it was changed to Dublin for this show. It would have been interesting to have seen a show set in my hometown while in a foreign country.
We got to do something absolutely amazing on Saturday we got up bright and early and took the train to Dundalk in county Louth north of Dublin to see a castle that formally belonged to our family my moms side of the family the De Verdun anglicized to Verdon my mother's maiden name and my middle name. I've heard about this castle my whole life but it was really cool to see in person. The views from the Castle were amazing and the ruins were gorgeous.
When it was time to part with Anne and Susan I was disappointed although it meant that another visitor would be coming soon! Very early this morning my long childhood friend Em Burke arrived in Dublin. She will be spending the entire week here and tomorrow we are going to Paris. Today we walked around the city center and took touristy photos as well as ate lunch at a nice Irish pub to give Em that experience. She was a great sport with the jet lag and I'm so excited to spend the next week in Europe with her!
